Yesterday, our team has released a new version of ZenMondays. Major improvements are in area of HR - Leave Managements in particular. The following are some of new and improved features.

Leave Days in Lieu

With this new version, we introduced "Days In Lieu" option that is currently displayed under "Leave Policy" tab under Employee full view. Adding days in lieu allows HR team to assign arbitrary number of days to employee that can be utilized when applying for leave. For example, if employee has worked during holiday, she or he can be given extra day in-lieu that can be then offset against leave.
During leave application, if system detects that this employee has one or more days in lieu, only then will it offer option to apply for leave utilizing those days in-lieu.

Department Roles

New version now allows employees to be organized into one more more departments. It may sound unusual, but many companies today may have one person working accross multiple departments. We have now enable this to be reflected in organizational chart.
Additionally, you can set one or more employees as "Head of Department". These employees will automatically inherit a set of roles that are related to their department. For example, heads of department now can approve leave application of employees under their department. Of course, fine-tuning of who actually can approve leave on behalf of other employees is part of our standard User Access Rights configuration.

Superior/Subordinates

Under employee profile, you can now add a list of superios as well as list of subordinates. With this new feature, you can create proper organizational chart of who manages who.
As of today, superios, if given a proper access rights, are able to add or approve leave application on behalf of their subordinates.

Consolidation of Employee Leave Policy View

So, effectivelly, Leave Application module has now become more applicable for those companies with 20 or more employees where Superiors and Heads of Department have a role to play in managing and approving leave applications of subordinates and colleagues within their department.
Image on the right depicts Leave Policy view under Employee profile. Each employee profile now includes consolidated list of superiors, heads of department as well as HR managers who can manage and approve leave for this employee.

Stuff This Week Section

We have added a new dashboard item called "Stuff This Week". This little portlet will collect all pending tasks for the week (Mon-Sun) and show it in more details in a list form. Each task is color-coded with Orange and Red for Normal and High Priority tasks.
There are two segments within the portlet. Today andThis Week. Those are pretty muych self-explanatory. One thing to note is that if the task deadline is yesterday or any time in the past but within this current week, the task will still be in the list under This Week segment with Overdue label.

Two and Three Column Dashboard

We have introduced a new dahsboard layout. Now, you can choose to layout dashboard portlets in two or three columns - three columns being the default layout in the past.
To switch between two or three column layout, open menu on top-right (under your user menu top-right corner) and click on "Two-column Dashboard" or "Three-column Dashboard". Once selected, dahsboard will change and this selection will be stored as your prefered dashboard view.
If you are managing multiple companies, you can select prefrered layout for each company independently.

Latest Feeds

Dashboard now features a list of 5 latest articles from your favorite RSS feeds. In the past, we displayed 1 articke which is then replaced with next article very 8 seconds. Recently, we received feedback from several people pointing out that area was too small and content was unreadable. We listened and we now showcase top 5 feeds in fairly standard font size. More work will be done in a near future to make this RSS reader a prefered choice for your news, sport, entertainment or things like interesting upcoming events related to your business, etc.
